Mother’s Day Service

We had a wonderful mothers day service with a beautiful time of worship followed by something very special. Usually we ask one of the men or young men to share a short exhortation about the blessing of mothers. This year we asked the everyone present if they would like to share why they are thankful for their mother, grandmother or wife. Using our portable wireless microphone in the congregation, we heard heartfelt praises for moms, wives and grandmothers from at least 30 people from about 70 years old down to 8 years old! There was not a dry eye in the house. God has truly blessed us with wonderful mothers in the Body of Christ. We gave out a beautiful tote bag and pen to all the mothers. The National Day of Prayer

On Thursday May 3, we gathered to pray on the National Day of prayer. We followed a list of prayers that came from Intercessors For America which is part of their program “Saving America Through Prayer.” http://www.ifapray.org/

We believe that the principles listed in 2 Chronicles 7:14 are part of how we are to pray today.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (KJV)

We realize that we are not the Land of Israel to whom this was originally spoken however, Christian Believers are “God’s People.” We have been called to be salt and light wherever we live. It is clear from many surveys that sinful behavior in the church is just as rampant as it is in society in general. If there is to be any revival or wholesale “turning back to the Lord” it must begin with the church humbling themselves, praying, confessing their sin and seeking God’s face. Then in what ever way the Lord chooses to heal or reveal himself in our land,  His people have been obedient to return to a holy life of devotion to Jesus Christ.

The first great awakening swept through the 13 colonies in the 1730’s - 1740’s. There was a tremendous effect by the Spirit of God on both the church and the nation. The Second Great Awakening took place in the early 1800’s and brought about a great turning back to the Lord.

May God in his mercy be pleased to pour out His Spirit on this land again that we might be a nation that fears the Lord and that the Good News of our Savior Jesus Christ would go forth with power.

Activity Update

Our apologies for not having a more recent update! Here are a few of the things that are going on:

On February 22, we started a Wednesday morning men’s bible Study that meets twice a month. We are averaging 17 men attending. Some are retired and some are just free on Wednesday mornings. We are having very practical discussions based on a book we are reading called “Growing Old in the Grace of God” by Clay Sterrett.

A Group from Teen Challenge sang and gave testimony on Sunday morning Feb 26 and it was a powerful time in God’s presence.

Our Wednesday night Care Groups are enjoying a video bible study by Bill Hybles called “Moved by a whisper.” It is really stirring us up to spend time with the Lord and to carefully listen for his direction in our daily lives. We have already had many testimonies about promptings from the Holy Spirit with a powerful outcome.

Our Ladies started a Monday night bible study using materials by Beth Moore and 40 ladies are attending! That is awesome. They are very excited and will be greatly strengthened by these times together.

Great messages have been given! We do not have one “senior pastor” who does all the Sunday morning preaching our church. We have a group of brothers and occasionally a sister who will teach or give testimony. We have had about 5 outlines for teachings submitted to the Elders. This allows us to tell everyone “be prepared to speak!” We pay attention to what the Holy Spirit is doing on Sunday morning and the message that follows that theme will be given. It has been working out fine. If Jesus Christ is the resurrected Head of His Church, He can run the meeting! Our job is to be sensitive and follow His lead.

We were thrilled to have 8 new people become members of the Farmingdale Christian Church in the month of April.

We are preparing to take a mission team to Guatemala this summer to work in orphanage construction, village ministry, school outreaches and feeding the poor. We have made many trips to the Houses of Hope in Guatemala since 2004 and it is an awesome time of service to the Lord. See the link under the Missionaries page on our web site.

One of the sisters in the church had a very touch and go pregnancy. She recently gave birth to two beautiful twin boys! It was a miraculous answer to prayer. They are home recovering and many folks volunteered to bring dinners to the family. We will keep them fed for the next two weeks! Thanks to everyone.

Finally, Jesus is alive and at work in the world! We are privileged to be born again, touched by his love and growing in our faith. We invite you to join us in loving God and loving one another.
