Thanksgiving Dinner Served!
This year (to the best of our recollection) was the 30th year we have hosted and served a free Thanksgiving Dinner for anyone in the local community who would like to attend. We served 45 people this year not counting the many people who were workers at the event. Some of those who came live alone, some live in group homes and some lost everything due the flood from Hurricane Sandy.
A group of brothers and sisters came on Wednesday night to set up tables and chairs and to peel potatoes for the fresh mashed potatoes that would be made on Thursday at the Church. We were done in 35 minutes! After so many years it runs like a well oiled machine.
All other food we serve is home cooked by members of the church and brought fresh at 9:00AM on Thanksgiving day. The turkeys are carved at the church as soon as they arrive. Mashed potatoes and gravy are prepared at the church. All food is kept hot in Sterno racks.
We serve from 11:00AM - 3:00PM and then clean up from 3:00PM - 4:00pm. We had plenty of help this year and the dinner was a blessing to all.
